Telephone Administration, have found it necessary to enlarge their plants. The completion of the Nanking-Wuhu section of the Nanking-Canton Railway makes Nanking now the junction of three important railway lines. Twenty- seven modern banks, not including branches, function in the capital, but they have generally been content with collecting deposits instead of financing the market to any great extent. Following in the wake of the Yunglee Chemical Industries' sulphate of ammonia factory at Hsiehchiatien is another great industrial enterprise, the Kiangnan Cement Works, which is now under con- struction at Tsehsiashan, a locality 23.5 kilometres to the east of Nanking and 10 kilometres to the, west of the China Portland Cement Works at Lungtan.
