9th August, 1945.
The Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies, Downing Street,
W.1.
Dear Sir,
With reference to the call which Mr. Frank Groves of the American Express Company Inc., Mr. Hayden of the National City Bank and myself paid to
Mr. N.L. Smith, Mr. D.M. MacDougall and Mr. William Thompson of the Hongkong Planning Committee, 2 Park Street, last week, I have now heard from my Head Office giving me the name of the representative whom they have selected to proceed to Hongkong as soon as permission and transporta- tion can be arranged.
The name of our representative is
Mr. D.L. Ballantyne, Manager of The Chase Bank, Hongkong, and I am now writing to file formal application on his behalf. If it is at all possible, Mr. Ballantyne would like to take with him four assistants whose names have not yet been decided, but our Head Office will be pleased to submit the names if and when the possibility of their depature is indicated. In the meantime, we are simply filing this application on behalf of Mr. D.L. Ballantyne.
Thanking you for your courtesies.
Yours faithfully,
(Sgd.)
J.M. Wallace. Vice President.
