R. Johannessen, Esq. The Norwegian Shipping & Trade Mission,

Sir Phirozsha Mehta Road,

Sir,

I had the pleasure of meeting you in your Office in October last, through the introduction of Mr. Morse, Chief Manager of Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation. We discussed affairs connected with China and Hongkong, the latter place having been my home for over 20 years.

One of the best answers to talk. of returning Hongkong to the Chinese after this war, appeared as a letter to the Editor in the American

Magazine "LIFE" end of December, and I take the liberty to quote it to you as you may be interested:-

"In your editorial of

December 13 you say,

Britain does not even promise the return of Hong Kong to China". Any
