The question of what British subjects in occupied China should adopt towards the Japse auths was considered at a meeting on 12th March (F2285/888/10), and
instructions were sent to Berne on

10th April and reiterated on 17th April (F2805 + 2952/888/10). They were that Hup expect patristic British subjects to refrain from assisting the effort but that they should as unpatriotic the part- -icipation of Brition subject in such maintenance of essential services as is for the benefit of the civil population of the occupied territory."
