Consul General Manila is pressing for the early departure

of Hon Kong evacuated families to Australia owing to embarrassment

caused to Phillipine authorities due to arrival of large numbers of

British women and children which has doubled the normal European

population. love to Australia obviously dependent upon shipping

which will presumably only be provided by degrees. Commodore

Hong Kong and I consider that the first evacuees to Australia should

be the naval military and dockyard families as unlike the civilian

families Hong Kong is not their permanent home. Assume that if move

of military families takes place you will make arrangements for

their reception and maintainence with Australia.
