garrisons in North China].
For the confidential use of the United States Government
only, answers to your questions are as follows:-
1. (a) Shanghai 1,350 all ranks
(b) Tientsin 4 officers and 130 other ranks
(c) Peking 1 officer and 40 other ranks.
These figures are only approximate since it is not known yet how many administrative personnel will eventually
be considered necessary.
2.
Reductions at Tientsin and Peking will have been effected by about 14th December and figure at (a) above will represent position at Shanghai after departure of North
China battalion at the end of December.
