Addressed to Tokyo No. 62. On 30th July two Chinese Gendarmes in uniform went to British Charitable Hospital and urged all Chinese staff to leave immediately. Asked for urgent interview with Japanese colleague and as no reply was made, sent to him in writing. statement of case and request for appropriate action Is pressing for interview on 1st August.

When the British Boxer Indemnity was returned to China, a grantwals
tmade 15 the British Charitable Hospital out of the accumulated
1 funds. Dr. Gray, doctor to Hm. Embassy, managed the hospital till his retirement, after which he was succeeded by Dr. Apland, who is under contract to give medical attendance to the members of Hm. Embassy staff. It is the only British hopital in Percing, but cares almost solely
"for Chinfeze.
