MEETING WITH THE GOVERNOR OF HONG KONG

In my minute dated 18th July, 1957 I said that at your meeting on 23rd July the Governor of Hong Kong might ask if he could be kept informed of present and future SEATO plans; I suggested that you might like to give him guidance on the lines of paragraphs 2 - 4 of my minute. As you will recall, the Governor did not raise this question. I have since been informed by the Colonial Office that the guidance contained in my previous minute, if it were to have your approval, would meet the Governor's wishes.

2. May I please have by noon on Thursday, 1st August, your approval or comments on the Governor being given guidance as suggested above.

29th July, 1957.
