The next point is to decide how and at what stage the French should be brought into collaboration during the preparation of long term appreciations and of other Reports on which Allied views are required. The results which

the Allied Military Committee have been able to achieve have proved its value, and there is no doubt that a

definite need exists for a Joint Allied Military body to

remain in being. Moreover it should be observed that on

the French side the Allied Military Committee is the only Joint Organisation in which the three French Services sit

round the table in day to day collaboration.

Nevertheless the British Representatives feel that

full advantage has not so far been taken of their

Organisation to assist in the co-ordination of planning

with the French, and to sound the French on their views on

military matters which must of necessity be of interest

to both countries. They suggest, moreover, and we agree, that the existing machinery has not brought the British Military representatives into sufficiently close touch

with the Joint Planning Committee, and that the French should be brought in at an earlier stage than is at present the practice.

We have discussed this subject with the British Military representatives and we have agreed with them

upon the steps which we suggest should be taken to remedy
