assurances in regard to an advance through Yugoslavia. Turkish Government had, however, admitted that Salonica was a vital point for them. In regard to Yugoslavia I could not say that we had any very definite assurance that the reports which we had had were not entirely discouraging. I promised at once to submit this message to the Secretary of State who is receiving Monsieur Simopoulos to-morrow. The latter very much hoped that on that occasion the Secretary of State might be able to give him some kind of answer.
