The effort to be diverted to gas in the manner envisaged will depend largely on the availability of the necessary material and the administrative plan for supplying this material to the units.

Present stocks and planned production of gas bombs are sufficient to form 25% of the average bomb lift of the bomber force employed in night operations- and to maintain this effort indefinitely. It will thus be seen that the position regarding the availability of gas bombs is satisfactory.
11. Facilities for spraying gas are still limited. Blenheim squadrons equipped for this technique can be employed against targets in the Ruhr.
For any deeper penetration, however, heavy bombers would be required. At present, one Wellington squadron is fully equipped for spraying, and a second is being equipped and trained. Subsequent expansion of the use of spray by long range aircraft depends on the provision of the 1000 lb. containers, which will not allow for any further increase in the effort before the end of the year or early 1941. -
