my army and commandoes to assist, and then with the sword to fight for the subjection of all rebels who may oppose themselves against my lawful rule, etc., etc. And for that purpose to use all their power to call together as many men, white as well as black, as may be considered necessary. Therefore bind I myself, with advice of my councillors [sic] and headmen, to cede to the principal leaders of the Boers a tract of country from the north-western part of Zululand, bordering on the South African Republic, and as large as above-mentioned; principal leaders may consider necessary for establishing an independent self-government according to agreement.

My people and subjects who may live within such land, will have to remove to other parts of Zululand, and will not be allowed to live and to enter with the object of annoyance, that part of the country as now ceded to the Boers, and they, the Boers, will be empowered to establish their own race within that part of Zululand, and they will have their own laws, and make laws without the least interference on my part or of the Zulu nation.

And at last I bind myself with the advice of my councillors [sic] and headmen to be ready at all times to assist the Boers in any way whatso- ever, and to live with them in everlasting peace, and to keep in unison with them for the prosperity and welfare of their land, as well as that of Zulu- land and nation, and never to call in any other power or Government without the consent of their Government.

Signed and agreed to on this twenty-third day of May, 1884, and ratified with our signatures.
