Orders for Mainland Section Commander.

27. The area of your command and sub-divisions, and the dispositions for meeting an attack are laid down in (D) (ii) (c) of Chapter II.

Orders for Commanding Royal Engineer.

(i.) Precautionary Stage.

28. The Commanding Royal Engineer, assisted by the Inspector of Works, will make preliminary arrangements for:-

(a.) The contracts laid down in Table E (ii), Chapter III.

(b.) Mat-sheds to replace tents after one week's mobilization.

(c.) Supplying water-tanks, casks, planks, &c., and such other stores as may be required.

(d.) Taking over all unsuspended services in relief of the Division Officers, assisted by Division Officer No. 1.

(ii.) War Stage.

29. The Commanding Royal Engineer will complete the contracts arranged for above and hand over the services to the Inspector of Works.

30. He will, as soon as possible, make a tour of inspection in Island Section, and arrange for any deficiencies or difficulties he may discover.

(2.) Orders for General Reserve.

(i.) Precautionary Stage.

Troops on the Island.

31. 1 company No. 1 Indian infantry, with 1 British telephonist, will proceed to Taikoo Sanitarium, and will find a guard of 7 men on the Quarry Bay Docks. This guard will be relieved by Hong Kong Police at the war stage.

(ii.) War Stage.

32. The Indian infantry at Taikoo Sanitarium will be strengthened by an additional company from No. 1 Indian Infantry Regiment and 1 British telephonist.

2 companies of British infantry will be stationed at Mount Austin.

3 British signallers at Murray Barracks.

Hong Kong Volunteers (strength as under) will assemble at their drill hall near Peak Tram Station (low level).

33. 2 companies of British infantry will be stationed at Whitfield Barracks.

2 sections of mountain artillery with 4-295-in. guns at Gun Club Hill.

34. The Officer Commanding British Infantry Battalion will command the whole of the troops of the General Reserve, wherever situated, and will receive his orders for its
