31. Communications from Jubilee Look-out. The look-out post at Jubilee Look-out is in communication through the Lower P.W.S.S. with the F.C. post and Pinewood Battery by telephone, and with P.W.S.S.M. at Victoria Peak by telephone, through Pinewood also with F.C. post, Upper and Lower Belchers, and S.L. Directing Station, by alarm circuit.

32. Look-outs Report to F.C. any Ships Sighted.-One look-out will be posted at Jubilee Look-out from sunrise to sunset. After sunset, or when there is a fog, two look-outs will be posted. The look-out will report at once to the F.C. all ships of any kind observed, giving a description of each vessel, and its position when observed and its apparent course. Look-outs will be posted every two hours.

33. Alarm Gong. At night or in foggy weather, should any boat or vessel be observed by the look-out attempting to approach the harbour, the alarm will be given, and a description of the vessel or vessels sent to the F.C. as soon as possible.

34. Look-outs Diary. A complete diary should be kept of all occurrences by the n.c.o. in charge.

35. Diary for each Work. The Senior Officer of each work will keep a diary showing the time and a short description of any important event, such as the times when sentries were relieved, alarms given, apparent damage to enemy by fire, expenditure of ammunition, &c.

36. Reserve. It should be noted that the special duty of the Reserves is the supply of ammunition. Each battery has its own reserve located near its battery.

A copy of these instructions should be placed in the fort record book of all batteries and at the F.C. post.

37. Copy of Instructions in Fort Record Books, &c.-Those portions of the instruc- tions which concern particular batteries should also be abstracted and put into fighting books. Should there be any local considerations which have not been dealt with herein, full instructions should be added in the fort record book's to meet them (i.e., Examina- tion Service, &c.).

38. R.E. Infantry and R.A.M.C.- For purposes of administration all details of the R.E., R.A.M.C., &c., allotted to the Western Fire Command (Hong Kong) will be attached to you, and will render the following reports during mobilization :—

(1.) Daily State (R. E. R. A. M.C.). (2.) Sick Report (R. A.M.C.).

You will make the necessary arrangements for the accommodation (in barracks only) of the above details.

You will arrange with the O.C. R.A.M.C. detachments details concerning time and place for receiving sick, &c.

39. Troops other than R.G.A. in the Fire Command are assigned to positions as follows: at the war period half the number of men at each post will be on duty at the precautionary stage, with the exception of R.E. The O.C. infantry will arrange for the defence of the lights on the Praya and the Engine House at Belchers during the precautionary period, the Hong Kong police taking over the duties at the war stage.

Finding at night and in foggy weather piquet on the Jubilee Road, where the path leads up to Mt. Davis. Piquet on the Jubilee Road at the re-entrant above Sandy Bay. Piquets will keep up communication with each other and with piquet No. 1 with the Island Section N. of Chaters Bungalow by patrol. The company will find such
