41. The arrangements for guarding the lights on the Praya and the Engine House at Belchers are set forth in Chapter IV (3), paragraph 35.

(10.) Mobilization Orders by F.C. Western Defences to O.C. No. 87 Company R.G.A.

(Stonecutters).

(i.) Precautionary Stage.

1. Guards for Batteries, P.F. Cells, F.C. Posts, Examination Gun, &c. On the order to mobilize for precautionary stage being received, the following guards, &c., for various batteries, &c., will be at once detailed from the manning details of the works. You will report to me directly manning is complete, and be prepared at any time to act as an independent F.C.

B.C. Post, West (Stonecutters).—Total, 7. 1 officer, 3 gunners as look-outs, 1 P.F.

specialist, 2 signallers and telephonists.

Accommodation: B.C. post and barracks.

Total, 28. West Battery, 2-10-in. guns: 1 n.c.o. and 8 gunners, H.K.S.B. R.G.A., examination gun B 1. West Battery, 3-6-in, guns: 1 sergeant, 3 n.c.os., and 15 gunners, R. G.A.

Accommodation: Barracks at West, 1 tent, H.K.S.B. R G.A.

Central. Total, 11. 1 sergeant, 1 n.c.o., 7 gunners, 1 P.F. specialist, 1 telephonist

and signaller.

Accommodation Barracks.

East (Practice Battery).—Total, 4. 1 n.c.o., 1 telephonist and signaller, 2 gunners.

Accommodation: Barracks.

Albion (Drill and Practice Battery).—Total 4. 1 n.c.o., 2 gunners, 1 signaller and

telephonist.

Accommodation: Barracks.

Attached to O.C. Mainland Section. 4-15-prs. at Eagle's Nest and Customs Pass.

Total, 20. 2 n c.os. and 18 men.

Accommodation: 4 tents, lighter.

2. Marching out to Forts, &c.-The above details will at the appointed hour, parade in marching order, rolled blankets to be carried, and water-bottles filled. You will issue twenty rounds of s.a a. to each man. Men are allowed 20 lb. of baggage, officers, 60 lb. The guards will be marched off by the orderly officer, who will visit each fort to see that the guards have gone to their appointed places, he will then proceed to the B.C. Post, from whence he will report to you that everything is correct for the information of the Fire Commander.

You will arrange to issue on parade those necessary articles of mobilization equip- ment held on charge at the various batteries for the use of the guards, &c.

3. Supply of Equipment, Rations, &c., by Q.M.S.-You will arrange for rations to be sent out daily to the details of Central, East, Albion (Centurion and West by O.C. H.K.S.B. R.G.A.).

Commencing from the second day of mobilization for the precautionary stage, the guards, signallers, telephonists, look-outs, and P.F. specialists will be relieved daily at

hour before sunset.

4. Reliefs. The arrangements of reliefs will be left to the Officer Commanding the

company, who should arrange the periods to suit the comfort of the men.

5. Officers visiting Guards and Sentries. Every battery must be visited by an officer at least twice during the twenty-four hours, of which one must be by night.

6. Guards.-Guards are for the purpose primarily of protecting the guns, &c., from malicious injury, all gates of forts, doors of magazines, P.C. cells, P.F. posts, &c., must be kept locked, P.F. shutters will be kept closed, except if being used for drill.

7. Sentries.--The following sentries will be posted at each battery By day.-1 flying sentry.

By night-1 sentry over guns, 1 sentry over gate and fences.
