In the early 1900's, the newly constructed
Connaught Road Cenlral saw the completion of 30
or more piers calering to the needs of inner harbour
shipping, HK-1Iacao ferries, cross harbour ferries
and ocean lines. 'There also existed smaller piers
used by mini cross harbour ferries or motor boats
known as `'walla-walla".
The year 1951 saw the initiation or the
reclamation or Edinburgh Place and with the
subsequent reclamation schemes along the
coaslline of Central and She ung \Van, the
significance of ConnaughL Road Central ror

1月
1日元旦，畢打街與正中德輔道中交界的香港大酒店發生大火。
灌救水喉噴射圖正中畢打街的地段，為
1841年填海前的原有海旁。左方為由第二代郵政總局及由
高等法院改建的華人行，頂樓懸掛五色國旗的南唐酒家，約於三年後易名為大華飯店。

可見數名乘坐轎子及人力車的「洋大人」或「大班」。

正中六層高的建築是即將重建落成的香港大酒店

的是歷史悠久的畢打碼頭。
1890年代中，寶靈海旁中易名為德輔道中。
