COAL.

HONGKONG, Apr. 14th.-The arrivals of coal since the 30th. ult., amounted to 19,000 tons of Japanese, 7,300 tons Hongay and 825 tons Liverpool. The coal expected is 53, 00 tons Japanese, 1,800 tons Hongay, 5,000 tons Rori eo and 3,000 tons North Chira. Quotations according to Messrs. Hughes and Hough's circular are as follows:---

Here again the advance in Mau- chester has put a check on busines For Grey Printers there has been a little enquiry, whilst in Grey Shirtings buyers have apparen ly filled their requirements and there is nothing doing. White Shirtings and Cotton Italians hive soon some enquiry lately. Woollen and Wol'en Mixture. This is still the between seasons interval, and there is nothing to report. Owing to the rise in prices at home u-iness is still very quiet. for Japan. Rice. The tone of the market continues to improve, otherwise there is nothing special to report. Several cargoes have arrived at Yoko- ham during the past week, but these large importations have had no visible effect prices. Metals

The heal market is dull with practically nothing doing.

With the present outlook the prospect of doing business is very mall until buyers begin booking for Autumn arrival. Window Glas-s-Business continues dull with prices about the same. SUGAR.

Market dull. There is a very marked decrease in the figures of Sugar imported into Japan during the first three months of this yer compared with the same period of last year, viz., Java Sugar Yon 651,000 against Yen 3,300,001, Germany Yon 800 against Yen 185,0 0. Osaka Refined.-At the auction held

on the 23rd instant 3,50) Bags of Osaka Sugar and 1,000 Bags Kobe manufacture were dispo-ed of at prices showing an advance of 5 to 10 Sen, while, 1,000 Bgs Yokohama Sugar were sold at the same prices as obtained at last auction.

YARN.

HONGKONG--Mr. P. Eduljee, in his Report dated- 14th May, states:- hortly after the departure of last mail te market became very quiet owing to the steady rise in exchange, and continued par- ticulary so throughout the past fortnight. Heders are holding entirely aloof and a general disinclination on the part of buyers to continue operations - appure t. but with sellers anxious to on their holding parcels, here and there, change hands whenever special interment is offered.
