HABUTAI,

KANAZAWA. The ket has continued to de line owing to the want of support, and there is every possibility of even a further decline during the coming month. The only enquiry appears to have been enfined to 23 inch for Europe. Echizen. The downward tendency con- tinues, and in symathy therewith the quality of the production has deteriorated. The demand has been very small, and there is nothing of interest to report. Kawamata. For 20 inch the market is very weak indeed, and prices have considerably relapsed. The only enquiry

for this Habatai has been in connection with 36 inch goods,

CAMPHOR.

HONGKONG 17th April:-There is no market. The prices are the same.

HONGKONG SHARE QUOTATIONS,

HONGKONG, 16th April, 1909.-Our market has been more active during the past week, and a fairly good investment business has been put through at current rates, the tendency at the close being mostly towards higher values. Speculatively, the features of the period under review have been the sudden advance in Indos and Langkats in Shanghai, quotations locally being to some extent à reflection of those re- ceived from the northern port. Sterling exchange hat ruled steady during the interval and closes af. 1/83 T.T. with Bar ailver at 23gd. The T. T. rate on Shanghai is quoted at 748 and the 3d/sight at 751, The Bank's buying rate in Shanghai for 3ds bills on Hongkong is 747.

BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais have ruled firm with sales and buyers at $920. Lon- don has advanced to £87, and Shanghai to $960 at exchange 73. Nationals continue in request at $51 but are without business.

MARINE INSURANCE.-Unions have been booked in a small way locally at $840, and im- ported from the North at $835, market closing with sellers at the higher rate. China Traders are wanted at $90, and North China's at the im- proved rate of Tle. 105. Cantons have again been booked at $187 and more shares can be obtained.

FIRE INSURANCES.-Hongkongs have ruled firm with buyers at $320 and no sales reported. Chinas have been booked and can still be dis- posed of at $104.

SHIPPING-Hongkong, Canton and MacaOS after small sales at $29) have advanced to $30 at which rate shares are enquired for. Indo- Chinas in the early part of the week sold locally at $61 for the combined preferred and deferred, but latter suddenly jumped to $70 under a trong demand from the North, closing at this figure with buyers. The latest advices by wire from -hanghai quote sales at Tls. 54. China and Manilae after further small sales at $8 have ad- vanced to $10 with sales and further buyers. Douglases can still be placed at £35, but at $36 1here are sellers. Shell Transports are wanted at the improved rate of 56/-.

REFINERIES. China Sugars are quiet with sellers and small sales at $137. Luzons are unchanged at $17 sellers. In the North Perak Sugars have been sold at Tls. 132.

MINING.-Charbonnages have advanced to $610, and it is probable that a higher rate would lead to business. Raubs have been booked at $8 and close steady. Chinese En- gineerings continue firm with buyers in the north at Tls. 18.

DOCKS, WHARVES AND GODOWNS.-Hong- kong and Whampoa Docks have ruled quiet with sales and probable sellers at 880. Kow- loon Wharves have sellers at $51 after sales at the rate and at $514. Shanghai Dooks are somewhat easier with sales in the north. at Tls. 83. Shanghai and Hongkew Wharves have ruled erratio with sales at rates varying between Tls. 162 and Tls. 1674, losing with buyers at Tla, 165. New Amoy Docks con- tinne in request at $94.

Hong-

LANDS, HOTELS AND BUILDINGS. keng Lands have been booked at $97, and Kowloon Lands at $30. West Poin's have been done at $44 and $43, and Humphreys Estates at 887. Hongkong Hotels are wanted at $84. Shanghai Lands have been booked in the North at Tls. 117 and there are more shares to be had at the rate.

COTTON MILLS.-EwOs have advanced to Tls. 116, but are obtainable. Soy Chees are quiet at Tls. 410. Internationals have advanced to Tls. 95, and Loau Kung Mows to Tls. 112. There are sellers of Hongkongs at $9.
