Shanghai Gas Co, shares have advanced to Tls. 110 Maatschappij, etc., in Langkats. On the 1st inst. the market opened with buyers at Tls. 802, for cash. This has been the prevailing rate, but at closing the market has improved to Tls/805 buyers. Bome forward sales have been made for December at Tls, 825, and for March at Tis, 385. Miscellaneous.-Hall and Holtz Shares have been placed at $22, and there are buyers at this rate. S. Montrie and Co. There are buyers at 888. Shanghai Horse Bazhara. There are sellers at Tis:40. Shanghai Mutual Telephone Co. shares were in demand at Tls. 50 in the early part of the week, and have advanced to Tis. 51; closing with buyers.
HONGKONG, 16th August, 1907.-Another quiet week has been experienced, and rates in many instances show a farther decline. Ster- ling exchange, owing to the violent fluctuations of Bar Silver, has ruled very uncertain, and to this fact must be attributed, in a large measure, the prevailing dullness. Exchange on London closes at 2/211 T/T, and on Shangbai at 72% T/T.
BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais, in sympathy with a fall of 10s, in London to £80 108. for the old ex new, have eased off local. ly to $670 and $510 for old ex new and new respectively, at which rates there are sellers. Nationals are unchanged at $51.
MARINE INSURANCES.-Unious are quiet with probable sellers at $775. North Chinas have been booked and more shares on wanted at Tls. 75. Yangiszes are s'ill procurable at $180, and Cantons at $270. China Traders have buyers at $90.
FIRE INSURANCES.-Hongkong Fires have declined to 8315 with sellers, and Chinas on- tinue on offer at $88.
SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macaos have sold and are still obtain ble at $28 ex the „dividend of $1 per share for the half year end- ing 30th June lagt, paid on the 13th instant. Indo-Chinas are quiet but steady at $39 ad $28 for the Preferred and Deferred respectively. Star Ferries are easier at $23 and $13 for the old and new issues respectively, and Shell Transports at 458. nominal. There is no change in Douglases.
REFINERIES.-China Sugars are quiet and without change at $100, and Lazons at $21 sellers,
MINING. Charbonnages are still enquired for at $490. Raubs have been booked at $51 to $64, the market closing with probable sellers at the latter rate.
DOCKS, WHARVES AND GODOWNS.-Hong kong and Whampoa Docks, after sales at 810, dropped suddenly to $98 owing to a forced sale, but have since recovered, and can a: ain ba placed at the higher rate. Hongkong and Kowloon Wharves have suffered
a further decline to $70 at which rate sales are reported. New Amoy Docks continue reglected at $11}. Shangh i Docks have experienced a sharp ad- vance, up to Tle. 82 baving be n paid for cash shares, whilst on time sales have been effected at Tls. 83 for December and Tls 86 for March delivery. The closing quotation is Tls. 80 with probable buyers for cash. Shanghai and Hong. Fow Wharves are also firmer at Tls. 221 ex the interim dividend of Tls 8. per share on account of 1907 paid on the 13th instant.
LANDS, HOTELS AND BUILDINGA. - Hong- kong Lands are quieter, and shares can be procured at the rednoed rate of 898. Kowloon Lands have sellers at $37, and West loin's at $48, after sales at the raie. Hongkong Hotels have sold and close fium t $100. Humphreys Estates have been booked at $10 and have further buyers. Shanghai an s are firmer with buyers in the North at Tls, 102.
COTTON MILLS. — We 1ave heard of no busi ness in this section, and quotations are 10- changed.
MISCELLANEOUS. - Dairy Farms have im. proved to $16 with sales. Green Is and C-ments are also firmer with sales and farther buyers at $104. Electrics have dropped to 814, and more shares are procurable. Chins Light and Powers have been bo›ked at. 85, and China Pro- viden's at $8.90. Ropes have improved to $23 buyers, and Tramways to $114, the latter with sales.

HONGKONG, 9th August.-The volume of busi- ness transacted during the period under review is larger than that of the preceding fortnight. From Saigon to Hongkong, as much as 18 cents per picul was paid, but owing to a sharp drop in the price of rice locally only 16 cents is now obtainable; to North Coast Java, 18 cents; to one port Singapore, 25 cents and 20 cents according to size; to one port South Coast Japan, 23 cents has been paid for a large carrier. From Ba gkok to Hongkong, 27 and 20 cents per picul. From North Coast Java to Hongkong, 30 cents per picul last; to Japan. 10 and 9 per ton. Coal freights are weaker. From South Japan Coal port to Hongkong, $1.55; to Canton, $2.25; to Singapore $1.70; to Swatow, $1.85. Pulo Laut to Hongkong
