arguing therefring the speedy conclusion of Peace, and others the reverse. It very propably has no- thing whatever to do with it! The news from Manchester is of rather a meagre description, there heing very little doing, but judging by quotations the market is very steady. Cotton is 5.85d. for Mid American and 8d. for Egyptian. The Export of Plain Cottons for the fortnight ending 18th inst. was 17,000, 00 yards. New York refrains from supplying this market with news either of Cotton or the manufactured article. The Yarn market has taken a decidedly downward turn, all spinnings suffering alike. Contracts for the New Season's Cotton bare heen made on the basis of Tls. 18.20 for Tungchow, Piece Goods.-The add- rance in Exchange possibly accounts for the decline in prices that has taken place in almost all the Cotton goods at the Auctions this week. This signify's the general feeling of the market. but there is little or nothing doing from first hands from stock, and forward business is confined to a few retail indents for Fancy goods.
