Silk-Since the date of our last circular very little business in Tsatlees has been done. Kah- ings and Coarse Silks have been in fair demand. Prices all round are weak. Yellow Silk.-Practi- cally no business to report. Holders are weak and the tendency is to lower prices. Hand Fila- tures. We only hear of two transactions at prices given below. Steam Filatures.-A few sales are reported but the relatively cheap prices of Italians and Japans, adversely affect this business. Waste Silk-The depression on the home markets continues and spinners are waiting to liquidate their stocks before operating further. The quality of most of the Low Wastes is very inferior this season, the inferiority specially being noticed in Honan 2 and Long Shantung Waste. tions have been on a small scale and comprise 30 Pionls Curlies 1 at 85 Tls., 100 Piculs Compoo Frisonents whole bales 81/32 Tls. Import business in Shortings has continued to a fair extent at Yokohama; contracts to arrive, December to January, being freely done in greys. Whites also meet with a ready sale for stock lots or something near at hand.
KOBE, 80th Sept. The Kobe Market Report, published under the direction of the Chamber of Commerce, says :-American. No business of im- portance is reported since our last issue, and quotations continue to rule high. Spot cargo has been nominal at Yen 84.00, owing to shortage of stock. Indian.-Business has been quiet for both forward and spot cargoes. It is yet early for new season's crop, and spinners are inclined to hold off at present in anticipation of prices receding. In
spot" about 4,000 bales of old crop have found buyers during the past fortnight at quotations somewhat above those ruling during the early part of the month. Chinese business has been brisk for forward sales, October/November ship-
sactions have been small owing to shortage of stock. Grey Shirtings.-Market quieter; clear- ances good. Cotton Goods and Fancies.-Deli- veries have been better, a few small assortment orders have been placed. Market closes quieter. Worsteds and Woollens.-Deliveries of winter goods are satisfactory. Some re-sales have been put through for immediate clearance. practically no export business doing in cotton yarns on account of the continued high price. The export for the last fortnight in September amounted to 31,849 piculs compared with 40,829 piculs same time last year.
The export from Japan this year to 30th Sep-ment, at comparatively low figures. Spot tran- tember has been: To Europe 8,755 bales; to America, 19,441 bales, the total weight was 28,899 piculs. Japanese exporters have once more done the bulk of the business, and continue successfully to keep down the available stock in Yokohama, a fact which also adds strength to the market.
