Captain and Mrs. Arbuthnot returned on the 22nd inst. on the Stanley from their trip on the West River The steamer left Hongkong on the 11th and anchored the same night under Lantan. Next morning Macao was reached and there a stop was made until Tuṛsday at noon. Samsbui w s the next place of cal; then Shuiling was made for, the Sandpiperacting ass belated escort en iqufe. On Wednesday the Stanley went t Lokyum and Captain and Mrs. Arbuthnot made a trip by boat and mountain. chair to the Buddhist Temple. Cn the 19th inst a water-polo match was played at the Victoria R restion Club's enclosure be wien te ma re. resenting the Royal Engineers and the Club. The Ea. gineers turned uone man short and A. E. Alves made up their team. Their players were Jackson, Brown, Melbourn, Rogers, Manna, aud Goodwill. For the V.R.C. there played R. Henderson, C. Alves, J. Millar, N. Alves, O. hunnut, A. Barros and II. Rajp. Club showed much superior form and staying powers and won a fast game by 8 g als to 3 Barros, N. Alves and Miler played exceptionally well. On the R.E. side the best man A. R. Alves; Jackson in real also made a god show-Letter than the 8 points scored against him would indicate. Mr. A. A, Alves cffic ated as refered A new method of mark- ing off the enclosure was introduced in the sh pe of floating, bam' po touch-lines in p'aco of the customary Luoys. This idea, we believe, is borrowed from Japan; it is at any rate a distinct improvement but there seemed to be some differe co of opinion as to whether the ball had merely to touch the bambos or go right over to be out of play, which point will have to be made clear.

The following account of the wedding of Mr. Basil Taylor, Assistant Harbour Master who returned on the 22nd by the Zafiro, is taken from the Munila Times of the 17th inst. :- Mr. Basil Taylor of Hongkong and Mrs. Clendennin were wedded at 8. Stephen's Episcopal Church this morning in te presence of a large gathering of friends, large'y made up of the Aimy set. Bishop Brent performed. the cer mony and nine was the hour at which it occurred. Lieut.-Colonel Osgood, father of Mrs. ||| Cleudennin, escorted the bride to the chancel and gave her into the keeping of her husband. Mr. T. C. Gray of Hongkong, a close friend of the
groom, was lest man and a number of officers acted as ushers. After the ceremony the bridal party drove to the Oriente Hit1, where a wedding breakfast was served driving rain-storm made a river of Galle Nueva in frout of the church and while it was fatal to frocks the wedding party did not lose its good humour and barely padded through the rain. and Mrs. Taylr leave at once for Hong kong, where they are to make their home. Mr. Taylor is in the Colonial service and one of the best known and most popular men in the Colony
