Mr. P. Eduljee says in his Report, dated Hong- kong, 11th October.-The dullness in our local markets has been more pronounced and only a few small sales are reported, but buyers will not pay these prices except for their most pressing wants. Goods under old contracts are now run- ning low, and dealers do not lead us to expect any material improvement for some weeks to In the absence of demand our quotations, though showing some variation, must be con- sidered more or less nominal.
come.
The most salient feature of the fortnight has been the strong and sustained demand for Shanghai and the Northern Ports, and looking at the unprecedentally heavy exports from Hong- kong to these places, the question of supplies will ere long be engrossing the attention of our dealers, as beyond their own contract goods very little is coming forward for sale, and although their holdings are still fairly large, they will find it to their interest to continue buying to meet the Autumn demand next month.
•
The local Mill continues running full time, and with an increasing offtake, stocks are rapidly diminishing. A further improvement of one to two dollars and a half is observable in prices, and sales of about bales No. 108, and 128. at from $921 to $95 respectively have transpired.
