Local Manufacture. The local Mill continues to run full time and prices are fairly steady, but the demand is very light and the position is weak

Japanese Yarn.-A little better feeling has to be noticed in these threads, but business is again checked by absence of supplies, and the market closes firm on the basis of $110 for Settsu No. 208. Raw Cotton. In sympathy with the manu- factured article is particularly dull. Indian der- criptions, despite advances on your side are weaker and with the quieter feeling sellers are easier in their rates and more disposed to meet any demand. Sales reported are some 157 hales machine ginned Bengal at from $22} to $201, leaving a stock of about 6,500 bales on the market, deducting 2,000 bales recently exported to Japan. The undernoted business in imported and local spinnings is reported from Shanghai during the fortnight ending 11th instant, viz.:--

Indian. Total sales 2,950 bales comprising 1,040 bales No. 108., 25 bales No. 128., 75 bales No. 168., and 1,210 bales No. 208., prices continuing unsteady and market closing weak. Estimated unsold stock about 28,000 bales.

Japanese. Total salo: 1,000 bales at Tls. 77 to 76 for No. 16s., and Tls. 79 to 81 for No. 20s., prices showing little or no change and market closing dull...

Local-Total sales about 1,500 bales at Tis. 68 to 72 for No. 101., Tls. 73 to 74 for No. 148., and Tls. 75 to 78 for No. 188., prices showing a decline of one to two Taels and market closing very unsteady,

VERNON & SMYTH'S SHARE REPORT. HONGKONG, 15th March. A moderate busi- noss has been transacted in most stooks during the past week, but rates have in many cases ruled somewhat erratic. At the close there is, however, a rather firmer tone apparent, with an inclination to improvement in some of the prin- cipal lines.

BANKS. Hongkong and Shanghais have been negotiated in fair lines at 352 per cent, and 353 per cent. premium for cash, and at 356 per cent. premium for the end of the month, the market closing with buyers for cash at 353 per cent. premium, The London rate has advanced to £59 158 0d. Nationals are in request at 825) ex dividend.

MARINE INSURANCES.—Unions have im- proved their position and have buyers at $260. Yangtszes have been placed at $118. Other stocks under this head are unchanged at quo. tations.

FIRE INSURANCES.-Sales of Hongkongs have been effected at $291, the market closing with further sellers at this rate. China Fires are weak, with sellers at $76.

SHIPPING.-Hongkong, Canton and Macaos have further declined to $331, at which there are sellers. A small sale at this figure is reported locally. Indo-Chinas after sales at $116 rose rapidly $118, at which a fair business was done, but at the close are rather weaker, with a few small sellers at $1174. On time an exten- sive business has been done for April at $120. Douglases are once more in request, and sales have been effected at 848 and $481, the market closing with further buyers at the latter rate. Star Ferries are wanted at $21 and $7 respec tively for the old and new shares. China Manilas have sellers at quotations.

REFINERIES. Chin Sugars have been placed at $143, but latterly the market has weakened considerably, and shares can now be had at $140. Luzons have declined to $39, at which there are sǝllers.

MINING.-Raubs continued in demand for the first few days of the period under review and sales at various rates up to $43 were effected. A weaker tone has since set in, however, and there are sellers now at this rate. In other stocks under this head there is no material change to report.

DOCKS, WHARVES AND GODOWNS.-Hong. kong and Whampoa Dooks have been sold in fair lines at various rates up to 660 per cent. premium for cash and the end of the month, and there is still a demand for the stook at this rate. On time, shares are wanted at eqriva- lent rates. Kowloon Wharves have been placed at $924. ex dividend, and further shares are obtainable at this figure. Wanchais are nnchanged with buyers at $63. New Amoy Docks have sellors at $24.

LANDS, HOTELS AND BUILDINGS.—Hong- kong Lands have been placed for cash at $195 and $196 and there are further buyers at the latter rate. For the end of the month shares are obtainable at $197. Hongkong Hotels have improved their position to $125, at which small parcels are still to be had. Humphreys Estates have been taken off the market in large lines at $124, at which further shures are obtainable............ West Points have boon sold and havo sellers at 849.).

COTTON MILLS.-The only change to report is in Ewos, for which Tls, 474 is now offered.

MISCELLANEOUS.-Cements have continued in demand, and sales have been effected at $20. For April a sale is reported at $204. Watsons have buyers at $16. Hongkong and Chins Gas Co. are wanted at $130. Ropes have been placed at $1571 ex div., and further shares might be had at this rate. Steam Water Boits have improved to $7, at which sales have been made. Dairy Farms are wanted at $8. Elec- trics have been placed and have further sellers at $13 and 87 respectively for the old and new shares.
