Mr. P. Eduljee says in his Report, dated Hongkong, 23rd November:-A better feeling has to be noticed in our market, and during the early portion of the interval a good demand has been experienced and some 8,671 bales have changed hands at here and there a slight advance of 50 cents to a Dollar per bale. No. 10s. continue to hold the premier position, No. 16s. have attracted some attention, whilst the bulk of No. 20s, have been purchased by Northern buyers for the Szechuen markets. The demand has appeared a little earlier than was anticipated, bnt importers are prepared with large and varied stocks. The last few days there has been a pause in the markets, as buyers, having bought a fair amount, are unwilling to follow up sellers in their advance, while sellers, having somewhat cased their stocks, are inclined to hold off unless they obtain full rates.

Local Manufacture:-The under-noted business has been reported in the products of the Hong- kong S. W. and Dyeing Mills, viz:-675 bales No. 108. at from $86 to 87, 575 bales No. 12s. at from

88 to 89, and 50 bales No. 168. at $97.

Japanese Yarn:-Are in fair enquiry, but the demand is not general and appears to favour one special spinning; the total business of the fort- night amounting to about 700 bales Settsu No. 208., at from $99 to 101.

Raw Cotton:Chinese descriptions are firm and sales of about 1,000 bales (small) have been effected at from $21 to $221; market closing steady with about 500 bales in stock. Indian

staple is barely steady. A few small parcels of New Crop Bengal, aggregating 378 bales, have arrived during the interval. The quality is inferior to the yield of last year, the cotton being- full of yellow spots. Dealers fight shy of the article and a parcel of 58 bales Superfine Etawa had to be sold in retail lots to five different buyers at $19. Old cotton is practically neg lected. Unsold stock about 2,000 bales old and now. Quotations are:--Bengal $16 to 20, and China $21 to $22.

Exchange on India closes to-day at Rs. 157 for T/T and Rs. 157} for Post, on Shanghai 711 and on Yokohama 21 per cent. discount.

From Shanghai the undernoted business is reported in imported and local spinning during the fortnight ending 18th instant, viz.:-

Indian. Total sales 5,712 bales, comprising 2,275 bales No. 20s., 215 bales No. 16s., 3,197 bales No. 108., and 25 bales No. Gs., prices showing an advance of half to one Tuel and inarket closing firm. Estimated unsold stock about 20,000 bales. Japanese-Tolal sales 2,000 bales on the basis of Tls. 701 to 72 for No. 16s, and Tls. 721 to 731 for No. 203., prices showing little or no change and market closing strong.
