Mr. P. Eduljes says in his Report, dated Hongkong, 20th July.A slightly improved demand has been experienced during the past fortnight, the chief f eature being the en- quiry for No. 10s., but nearly all counts were dealt in. No improvement, however, is to be noticed in values, which still continue on a very low basis. Latest advices from the coun- try point to an early resumption of the demand, but this is not likely to take place until the uncertainty attaching to the political complic ation in Peking is somewhat set a rest. while with incessant receipts and trifling offtakes, stocks are accumulating, and what with the closing of the Northern markets we are now threatened with an influx of goods from Shang- hai far in excess of all possible requirements. Already a number of bales ex recent arrivals shipped from Bombay direct to Shanghai has been diverted to and landed at this port. Wẹ close quiet but steady.
Mean-
Local Spinning-No business has been re- perted in the production of the Hongkong S. W. and Dyeing Mills.

With the exceptions of a single sale of 250 bales Kanegafuchai No. 168, at from $93) to 96† at the beginning of the fortnight, no other transaction has been reported, the ideas of both buyers and sellers being too wide apart to lead to business.
Baw Cotton,-Indian descriptions in sympathy with the manufactured article are partilularly dull, and with the exception of a small sale of 26 bales superfine machine-ginned Bengal at $224 no settlement whatever is reported, and the market closes very dull with an estimated unsold stock of 3,600 bales. There has been nothing doing in China Cotton, the market being bare of stock Quotations are Bengal $18 to $29, Rangoon $17 to $22, and China $25 to $26.
