JOINT STOCK SHARES. HONGKONG, 23rd March.-The market ha- been quieter during the week and there are no transactions of any importance to report. Rates however have ruled fairly steady, and in many instances show a rise on last weeks quotations.
BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghai's small sales have been effected at 320 and 318 per cent. prem. Market closing quiet at 318 per cent. prem. Nationals small lots have changed hands at quotation.
MARINE INSURANCES-China Traders have found buyers at $52 853 and $54 closing steady at the last rate. Unions have improved to $235 with sales. Cantous aud Straits continuo neglected at quotations and without business, Yangtszes have found buyers at $128 and North Chinas at $170.
FIRE INSURANCES.-Hongkong Fires re- main dull with a small, business at $300, sellers at $300 ruling the market at time of closing. China Fires have changed hands in small lots at $80.
SHIPPING.-Hongkong Canton and Macaos, after sales at $28§. $29 and $294, have improved to $30 with small sales at the last rate, market closing steady. Indo Chinas have been nego- tiated in unimportant lots at $91, and Doug lases at $51, the latter closing with sellers. China Mutuals are obtainable at the reduced rate of $117 no sales to report. China Mutuals are stil enquired for, but unprocurable at quotations.
REFINERIES.-China Sugars have remained quite neglected and in the absence of sales are difficult to quote; sellers at $136 and probable buyers at $132 is as close a quotation as is possible in the present state of the market. The report of this Company recently published recommends a dividend of $5 per share from Equalisation fund. The working for the six months ending 30th June shows a loss of $38,099.03 which amount the general agents themselves pass to the credit of Profit and Loss account for the benefit of the shareholders. MINING. Punjoms have changed hands at $7.75, $7.85, and $8, closing steady at the last rate, Charbonages unchanged and without business. Queens Mines have changed hands at 27 cont, and close at 25 cent. Jelebus harə ruled weaker with sales at $134 $13 and $12} elosing at $124. Raubs continue quiet, with no buyers or business at quotations. Olivers and Great Easterns have changed hands in small lots ut quotations.
DOCKS, WHARVes, and Gódowns.—Houg- kong and Whampoa Docks in the early part of the week changed hands at $495, 8500 and $505; later a small demand setting in for settle- ment purposes the rate suddenly jumped to $515. At time of closing shares are obtainable at the last rate. Kowloon Wharfs have been. placed at $83, and $833 and it is reported at $81. The market closing steady at $83. Wanchais are enquired for at qoutation without bringing any shares on the market.
CHINA OVERLAND TRADE REPORT.
8127, 81271 and $128, closing steady at $127. West Points after further sales at $51 and 851) snddeuly got weaker and shares changed hands at $50 $49 and $48. Market closing steady at $49. Humphreys have been placed at $9.50 and 39.60, closing steady at the latter rate. Kowloon Lands unchanged

COTTONS.--Hongkong Cottons have changed hands at $36 and close with sellers at that rate. In the absence of local business quota. tions for the Northern Mills are taken from the last Shanghai circulars.
MISCELLANEOUS-Green Islands have been placed at $30 and $29† closing with buyers at the latter rate.. Watsous have found buyers at $16 but close with sellers. Borneos have improved to $174. Ices have changed hands at $163. Electrics at $123 and Watkins at $10.77 ex dir.
