SHANGHAI, 3rd June-(From Me-srs.-Noël. Murray & Co.'s Piece Goods Trade Report. A better enquiry has been mifest during the past few days, but as yet it has made very little impression on the market, which, to all outward appearances, is in anything but an active state.
THE HONGKONG WEEKLY PRESS AND

However, it is no dent the precursor of w ha will develop into a gorul demand after the settling day, though really there is not a superabundance of available cargo in stock and operators quiatly king no shat they can to arrive. The heavier maks of Shirtings appear to be attract ing mod a'loutier (ow, in response to the better enquiry from Ila kow which is the on y market that shows any life at pan ont. The Northern trade seems to i us cnced temporarily, New chisang being perceptibly weak r and Tha'sig quieter, bo without quotable change so fur. American gan le hoy - no: figured in the week'k business to any arge extent, and thongh there is still con-iderable enquiry for fo ward"elivery holders of stocks are complaining of the apathy ghown towards them. Cotton Flannel is coul mencing to attract attention @ ain, and, in spite of the large contracts entered into for this ei Pason, there have been free telegraphic enquiries for further supplies going on during the interval. fair quality has change hauls amongst the natives during the week, which must have left very satisfactory profits with the original buyer; The Yarn markt has continued dull and droo; ing almost thr ughout the int rval, but towards the close a slightly bitter enquiry has been met with and prices look as though they had reached the bottom at last. Cotton, after all, has come down and the Members of the Spinners' Association have been enabled to buy on the terms they fixed.
