CONFIRMATION OF THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON 10 FEBRUARY 1998
The minutes of the meeting held on 10 February 1998 were confirmed.
II. PAPER LAID
The following paper was laid - Report to the Provisional Urban Council by the Secretary, Provisional Urban Council, for the month of February 1998.
III. QUESTIONS
(1) MR. WU CHI-WAI asked (in Cantonese):
'(a). At present, different types of sports, including badminton, basketball and volleyball etc. may be carried out in an indoor games hall. Does the Department have any policy on the allocation of playing time for each sport, such that enthusiasts of different sports may have adequate opportunities to use the venue facilities? If yes, what are the principles for the allocation?
(b) At present, is there any rule requiring people who wish to use the basketball courts at indoor games halls to book the entire hall? If yes, will the Department consider changing the policy to allow the users to book only half of the hall, so as to increase the usage of the basketball courts, as well as to further promote this sport which is much welcomed by the people of Hong Kong recently?
(c) I have used the facilities of the Council's recreation venues, and found that the gradually aging outdoor sports facilities no longer meet the needs of citizens. For instance, the surfaces of Tung Chau Street Park's tennis courts were stained, and the floodlights at Kowloon Tsai Park's tennis courts were not bright enough. In the past three years, has the Department received any complaints lodged by the citizens about dilapidation of the Council's recreational facilities? Does the Department have any policy to renovate these facilities? Based on what principles does the Department decide when to renovate them?'
