'On the matters concerning safety, water quality and facilities of the 12 beaches under the jurisdiction of the Council, I have the following questions: (a) Since the swimming season is approaching, besides the shark prevention nets installed last year, what other shark prevention measures are adopted by the Council to safeguard swimmers' safety?
(b) Will the Council consider studying the use of the state-of-the-art “shark repellent device” to repel sharks away from the Council's beaches? (c) According to the recent issue of Government Gazette, the water quality at St. Stephen's Beach as compared to the past, has deteriorated (especially in E-coli loads). Is this related to the discharge by the primary sewage treatment plant that was newly constructed in Stanley?
(d) What measures are adopted by the Council, including work already carried out effectively and measures to be implemented, to improve water cleanliness at the Council's beaches (especially St. Stephen's Beach)? (e) Does the Council have any plans to improve and replace the obsolete and outdated facilities at Turtle Cove Beach within a short period?“
