HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL

These amendments have been carefully considered by the Public Health Select Committee and the Standing Committee of the Whole Council, and I am satisfied that due weight has been given to all implications of the proposals.

Mr. Chairman, I beg to move.

MR. WONG SHUI-LAI, VICE-CHAIRMAN OF THE PUBLIC HEALTH SELECT COMMITTEE (in English):-Mr. Chairman, I second the motion.

The question was put.

The motion was carried unanimously.

3.

MISS CECILIA YEUNG LAI-YIN, VICE-CHAIRMAN OF THE LIQUOR LICENSING BOARD, moved the following motion (in Cantonese):---

'RESOLVED that the Dutiable Commodities (Liquor Licences) (Specification of Fees) (Urban Council Area) Notice be made under section 6(5) of the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance, Cap. 109.'

She said (in Cantonese):-Mr. Chairman, as Vice-Chairman of the Liquor Licensing Board, I rise to move the motion in my name.

The Dutiable Commodities (Liquor Licences) (Specification of Fees) (Urban Council Area) Notice 1993 made under the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance now before the Council will, when adopted, increase the fees for liquor and club liquor licences by 8%.

The existing fees for liquor and club liquor licences were effected on 1 April 1992. Under the existing Council's policy, all fees for licences are reviewed annually in order to recover deficits incurred upon in the course of issuing such licences and administration of such a policy. The Liquor Licensing Board and the Standing Committee of the Whole Council have both considered the proposed increases very carefully. I am sure the concerned authorities have seriously considered all the issues involved in this proposal.

Mr. Chairman, I so move.

MR. JASON YUEN KING-YUK (in English):—Mr. Chairman, I rise to second the motion.

The question was put.

The motion was carried unanimously.

ADJOURNMENT-3.27 p.m.

CHAIRMAN (in English):-That concludes the business for today's meeting. Council stands adjourned until Tuesday, 11 May 1993 at 2.30 p.m.
