# HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL

CHAIRMAN (in English):—I think that Mr. Peter P. F. CHAN may like to say a few words. This is your last opportunity to speak before the last meeting of the Council that you would like to attend.

MR. PETER P. F. CHAN (in English):—Mr. Chairman, may I thank you for the permission to speak and for your many kind words. Three years ago, more or less exactly, I stood on the other side of the Chamber saying goodbye. It is rather unique and probably a precedent that a member saying goodbye to the Council the second time. On the eve of departure, may I make a few wishes: firstly, I would like the Council in the coming years to be able to find the ultimate solution to the hawkers problem. Secondly, the Council will soon get enough money to balance the budget by the end of the financial year, this will make Mr. FORSGATE very happy. Thirdly, I hope that the Council will get more functions in order to play the role to complement the work of the district boards. Fourthly, I hope that the Council's computerization work will all work. (laughter) Finally, I wish the Members of this Council and the Council itself every piece of luck.

Chairman (in English):—These are encouraging and felicitous words, Peter, I thank you on behalf of my Colleagues and myself.

MR. TSIN SAI-NIN (in Cantonese):—Mr. Chairman, I would like to thank you and my Colleagues for your support in the past ten years. Progress and good health to you all and I hope very much that the Urban Council will grow up as a place of democracy and serve the public continuously.
