Statement of Aims for General Administration Select Committee
Organization
To keep under review all matters pertaining to the management, manpower planning and organizational structure of the department in the urban areas.
Headquarters Building
To pursue actively the construction of a permanent purpose-built USD Headquarters building and to ensure that all leased office accommodation meets the criteria for economy, suitability and convenience of location.
Training
To ensure that adequate staff training programmes are instituted to provide staff to operate and manage Council's facilities and services to the public, and to monitor the transfer of trained specialist staff to the New Territories.
Public Information
To promote and co-ordinate public information for the Urban Council and to ensure that its policies and activities are given the widest possible publicity through the news media, television programmes and the City News; to develop a central audio-visual service and be responsible for all Council publications.
Council Chambers
To ensure that the Urban Council Chambers are maintained at the highest possible standard to provide facilities and services for members and for Council meetings and other requirements.
Overseas Visits
To arrange overseas visits for the Council and members of the department.
Advertising
To keep under review the measures needed for the control of advertising signs and to press for the amendment of legislation to provide for better control of poster-type advertisements.
Street Names
To approve the names of all thoroughfares in the urban areas.
