HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL
Mr. LOBO has been a Member since April 1965, while Mr. WONG became a Member in April 1973. They have rendered distinguished service to the Council in many ways. Our Official Records are a testimony of their capacity for hardwork and good and effective leader- ship. So, I would like in your name, to thank them for all their good work and also to wish them success and happiness in all that they do in the future. Thank you, Mr. LOBO and Mr. WONG. (Applause)
THE HON. R. H. LOBO (in English):-Mr. Chairman, if I may, I would like to make an address. Mr. WONG Shiu-cheuck has signalled me to speak on his behalf, so I speak for both of us. I would like to thank you, Mr. Chairman, for your kind words and, in so doing, address the Members of this Council, and to say how sorry we are that we will have to leave. I think we are more sorry than anything else because we will not be working with some very good friends. We have seen this Council grow. Whereas, at one time, the Urban Council was an arm of the Government, today, it is a very important entity composed of many active and sincere people. Of course, there must be disagree- ments. Without disagreements, the Council cannot function. But I think the most important thing is, if I may take this opportunity of saying, that disagreements should not be turned into private or personal disagreements. By all means have disagreements on policies, but friends and colleagues after the meetings as it is only in that way that the Council can really find focus. Mr. WONG and I, in thanking you all for your friendship, would like also to extend to the members of the Urban Services Department, the Director and staff, our thanks for all their assistance, to the staff of the Urban Council, in particular Jack TINSON, for his ever-ready assistance and courtesy. Thank you one and all and may you have continued success now and in the future. (Applause)
