HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL

MOTION

MR. KENNETH T. C. Lo, CHAIRMAN OF THE RECREATION AND AMENITIES SELECT COMMITTEE, moved the following motion (in English):-

"That the Pleasure Grounds (Amendment) By-laws 1975 be made under Section 109 of the Public Health and Urban Services Ordinance, Cap. 132."

He said: Mr. Chairman, The purposes of the amendment of the By-laws are:

1. To remove the distinction between standard and exhibition hard surface tennis courts now that both types have flood-lighting;

2. To increase the fees payable for the use of tennis courts to make them more commensurate with the cost of provision; and

3. To increase the control possible over the use of courts and pitches by providing time limits when one individual is permitted to play.

The amendments have received the support of both the Recreation and Amenities and Finance Select Committees as well as the Standing Committee, and I now move that the amendments to By-laws 18 and 30 together with the schedule in the Pleasure Grounds (Amendment) By-laws 1975, be made Law.
