Food Hygiene

3.

HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL

(a) To continue the enforcement and review of regulations and by-laws pertaining to the maintenance of quality and hygienic standards of foods.

(b) To co-operate with other departments concerned in the health control of imports of meat and poultry.

(c) To expand and develop food export health certification procedure in co-operation with other departments concerned.

Ventilation

6. To continue periodical checking of ventilation (including air-conditioning) of scheduled premises.

Health Education

7.

(a) To continue to hold food hygiene training courses for personnel employed in licensed food premises, cooked food stallholders and other personnel engaged in the catering business.

(b) To introduce additional training courses for the public, such as cleanliness courses for caretakers in multi-storey buildings and public health courses for youth groups and to intensify publicity for the need for such courses.

(c) To co-ordinate with the Education Department in giving talks in schools, holding Health Quizzes and holding an Oratorical and Song Contest with a view to promoting health education among the young generation.

(d) To organize public health education contests and participate in public exhibitions.

(f) To promote health education by all available means and in particular by liaison with public organizations and bodies and other government departments.

(g) To produce and make available to the public or specific sections of the public leaflets and other material on subjects of public health importance.

Staff Training

CLEANSING DIVISION

8. To press for more Health Inspectors to be trained for the professional examinations of the Institute of Public Cleansing, for which no facilities exist locally at present, and for the local training of senior staff of the Division in management and administration.

City Cleansing and Refuse Collection

9. (a) To plan for the development of cleansing services over the next 5 to 10 years, to include:

(i) consideration and implementation of further means of mechanizing the cleansing services;

(ii) proposals for the siting of additional incinerators with the ultimate object of completely eliminating refuse disposal by controlled tipping;

(iii) a programme for the renovation and modernization of all old public latrines and bathhouses in the Colony, as well as providing new public conveniences in areas of need.

(b) To continue the promotion of the "keep your district clean" campaign, and anti-litter propaganda and measures.

(c) To continue to improve the cleansing services in all streets, particularly during the late afternoon and evening.

(d) To investigate and implement ways and means of improving conditions at refuse vehicle collection stops and to reduce as far as possible on-street refuse collection points.
