STATEMENT OF AIMS FOR 1964
Hygiene Division
1. To complete the establishment of a training unit for Health Inspectors and to increase recruitment to 30 in the coming year.
Environmental Hygiene
2.
(a) To improve the control of mosquito breeding on building sites and in private property.
(b) To continue the removal of illegal shades from the vicinity of domestic buildings and work places.
(c) To consider the desirability of resuming house inspections.
Licensed Premises
3. To raise the standard of hygiene in all food premises and in particular to improve control of cooked food stalls and food service establishments in undeveloped areas; and to proceed with the conversion of dry latrines to flush systems wherever possible.
Food Hygiene
4.
To expand the food inspection service and to establish a food inspection branch for imports and exports of food products: to improve the enforcement of legislation regarding purity of food, including the addition of preservatives.
Infectious Diseases
5. To assist the Medical and Health Department in the control of infectious diseases including cholera and to organize control measures in such a way as to cause minimal interference with other duties.
Health Education
6. To conduct food hygiene training courses, to organize public health contests and take part in public exhibitions: to conduct food hygiene and other publicity campaigns: to produce and make available to the public leaflets and other material on subjects of public health importance.
Cleansing Division
City Cleansing and Refuse Collection
7. To continue to examine and test all practical methods of improving these services, with particular regard to the development and modernization of equipment, intensified action against cleansing obstructions, and supervision of private refuse collectors.
