For the second year in succession the English County Cricket Championship ended in a tie. Surrey last won the title 36 years ago. Lancashire's last triumph was in 1934.
Last season there was also a North-South tie, when Yorkshire came with a Irior to that, the late run to share the Championship honours with Middlesex. Championship had not been shareil since 1889, when Surrey, Lancashire and Not- tinghamshire were joint leaders.

Restrictions Abolished Against Foreign Investments In Sterling Securities
London, Sept. 1.
Britain tonight abolished almost all restrictions on investment by foreigners The Bank of England announced that, generally speaking, in sterling securities, foreigners would in future be able to switch into any sterling area security quoted on a stock exchange in the sterling area and not redeemable within 10 years.
The Bank added that the investment of blocked sterling funds would be similarly relased. This means that Britain, at a stroke, has removed all the restrictions on foreigners switching their sterling securities from one country to another or from one to another type of sterling securities.
