CHINESE NEW YEAR SOCCER PROGRAMME WAS A FAILURE

The Chinese New Year soccer programme last week-end, look- ing at it from the angle of standard of play, was a decided failure. The tourists from Manila and Burma were hopelessly outclassed and provided very weah opposition to the local players.

The game on Chinese New Year day, Burma v Hongkong, attracted a large crowd, many of whom paid top price of $10 hoping to witness a game full of good, thrilling soccer. As it turned out the visitors (admitted the cold weather may have affected their play to some extent) put up a display which I'm sure Brother Cronin's schoolboy side would have easily beaten.
