CHINESE NEW YEAR SOCCER PROGRAMME WAS A FAILURE
SAYS "UNOMI"
The Chinese New Year soccer programme last week-end, look- ing at it from the angle of standard of play, was a decided failure. The tourists from Manila and Burma were hopelessly outclassed and provided very weah opposition to the local players.
The game on Chinese New Year day, Burma v Hongkong, attracted a large crowd, many of whom paid top price of $10 hoping to witness a game full of good, thrilling soccer. As it turned out the visitors (admitted the cold weather may have affected their play to some extent) put up a display which I'm sure Brother Cronin's schoolboy side would have easily beaten.
The score of 5-2 in favour of Hongkong could easily have been 16-2 had the Hongkong forwards put a little more effort into their play. Instead, the for- ward line slacked off in the latter singes and as a spectacle the game was ruined.

The Spotlight Will Be On
The Joeys-Jaguars Clash
BY "STARDUST"
The spotlight for this week-end will be on the long-awaited postponed game between the all-powerful St Joseph's and the happy-go-lucky Jaguars, Interest in the other Men's Senior League teams has for the moment died down, as there are only a few postponed games down for decision on Sunday.
St. Joseph's have a stiff task in their tilt against the Jaguars. Slugging power will be the deciding factor in this battle royal. The Saints have a star- studded line-up, and with the combination of Sherry Bucks pitching to backstopper | Canone Rumjahn have every chance of triumphing over the Jaguars. Coach Hal Mexicali Road" Winglee of the Jaguars will most probably have a starting bat- tery of Vic Pedruco and Frankie "Samba" Correa, who are playing in top form.

A MIRACLE MAN BRINGS SOCCER BACK TO LEEDS
BY ARCHIE QUICK
Major Frank Buckley, who is just now engaged in the task of putting Leeds United on the football map. is a remarkable man. Ile needs to be, for that is quite
a job in a city that is mostly Rugby League and cricket-conscious. But what he did at Wolverhampton and Hull he is gradually achieving in the woollen centre,. and it is something in the nature of a football miracle.
Thin grim, grey-haired man, you will remember, · burst upon the football world in a managerial capacity as the architect of Wolverhampton Wanderers for- tunes in the mid-thirlies. The palaver about rejuvena- Eing monkey-glands was so much publicity, but, by a remarkable scouting system, the Major gathered in all the young material available and he was never loth to put youngsters of 18 and even less in his first cleven.
