LONDON. TN the intervals of discussing cuts in our rations the Ministry of Food is busy spending £50,000 of the tax-

payers money on a campaign to persuade us all to cat more

fish.

But experts are a little scop- |tical about this campaign.

The reason for this is that the North Sea, home of the prime varieties, such as lemon soles, plaice, turbot, and brill, is becoming less and less produc-

tive.

Colonel Walter Elliot recently de- clared in Parliament that the near banks of the North Sea are beginning to be shed out.

He described the danger of " Girat diminution of Ash stucks" owing not only to the netivities Four Boots but every other fleet

Successful experiments to increase fish stocks have been carried out in sheltered waters by the use of fer- tilisers, such as phosphates and

nitrates.

These encourage the growth of the minute organisms which are essen- tint to the existence of tish.

It has been suggested that some thing similar could be done in the North Sea, but estimates made
