Offensive Analysed: Change In Tactics
(By "Reuter's" Special Correspondent)
MOSCOW, Aug. 20.-The gigantic nature of the eastern struggle is best realisable when one considers that now the battle is raging not only on this or that sector but on half a dozen vital points simultaneously.
The most vital and maybe the most critical battle is still raging inside the Dnieper bend behind Nikolalev and Krivoirog. But their unfortunate Smolensk experience seems to have taught the Germans to adopt somewhat different tactles and to use their great mobility- mobility which undoubtedly increased with more or less successful consolidation of their com- munications-to strike here, there and everywhere not necessarily with any preciso immediate objective but to impose on the Russians the necessity to move their troops about.
