As a result of conferences between representatives of the Importers, the principal stevedoring contractors, the sub-contractors, the chlet cooltes and the Labourers' Association, it has been arranged that importers will pay 23 per cent, more for any work than existing rates, and 50 per cent. more than exlating rates for night work.
This will give the sub-contractors something to meet extra costs for boat hire and other incidentals, and leave sufelent to meet the workera' deniands for a percentage increase to cover the
high cost of living.
The ten-cent meals hitherty served to the workers will henceforth cost 15 rents. For night work 50 per cent is addict to the new dally rate,
