RAIDS ON BANKS

Raids by armed men were made on bank branches and sub- post offices in Belfast recently. A policeman and a woman were wounded.

Old-age pensioners were. In Fallsroad Sub-Post Office draw- ing their pensions when four men armed with revolvers enter- cd. Others were stationed out- side. Mr Charles Lough, the sub- postmaster, said that one of the men stated: "We are the I.R.A. Don't scream. We want the money." They took about £800 from the till.

AFTER STEALING BICYCLE

A sentence of 12 months' rigorous Imprisonment was im posed by the Singapore district judge, Mr J. McFall yesterday on a Malay, Jaffar bin Chik, whom ho convicted on "the very serious offence" of stabbing a detective with a knife.

On a accond charge, of stealing a bicycle belonging to Loh Soo Teng from the Municipal Services Club in Farrer Park on Nov. 3, the same day, Jaffar was also convicted, and sentenced to nine months' rigorous imprisonment.
