IF we are relying upon or- ganised Christianity in Germany to rally to our banner of spiritual liberation when Hitler begins to fall, we may be sadly disappointed. So says the writer of a letter who can recall the time when Germany led the world in theological study.

Up till the latter part of last century it was customary for -British-divinity students to take a year in the theological schools of Germany. That has gone. With a few exceptions in Roman Catholic and Lutheran churches there is an almost total bank- ruptcy in spiritual leadership.

It is often said and written that the British Empire now fights alone.
