Urban Council Urges Did MACLEAN
Special Measures
--Serious View Taken
That the present Cholera outbreak constituted a Public Health emergency situation which needed immediate attention, was stated by the Deputy Director of Health Services, Dr. N. C. MacLeod, in a letter to the Urban Council recently. Reference to this letter was made by Mr. W. J. Carrie, the Chairman, at a meeting of the Urban Council yesterday.
Mr. Carrie said that since the outbreak of Cholern on August 23, a total of 296 cases had been reported. There were 70 from Kowloon, and 100 from the areas around Kowloon City. The numbers were rather high for the population in that district, and it appeared that Kowloon City was the focus of infection which was endangering the whole Colony.
About 600 shallow
wells which
were highly contaminated had been found, said Mr. Carrie. Drainage in Kowloom City was practically non- existent, and P drainage MEJARTNE should
