NAZIS OVER ENGLAND TURN BACK WHEN MET BY BRITISH FIGHTERS

Waves of R.A.F. bombers swept over Berlin at dawn this morning in the heaviest raids the Nazi capital has suffered since the war began, says a Reuter message.

German planes raided Britain at the same time but flew at a great height and turned away without dropping bombs when engaged by British fighters.

LONDON. Aug 29 (Reuter Pilot Officer James Eric Storrar, whose squadron destroyed 21 enemy alrcraft in one day, has, with five other officers, been awarded the Dis- tinguished Flying Cross for gallantry in 'flying operations.

Pilat Officer Storrar himself shot down two and has altogether a personal bag of cight enemy planes.

Sergeant Eric Knowles is awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal. He has carried out over 500. hours of opera- tional flying since the war began and has been engaged with the enemy on numerous occasions.
