(By “Birdie"')
IT WAS ONLY LAST WEEK that I made mention of the scarcity of golf nows from Home, yet within the short space of seven days three items of interest have reached us-a description of Henry Cotton's vic tory over Alfred Padgham in the "News of the World" £1,250 Tourna- ment, news that Cotton has reached the £10,000 mark in his collections for the British Red Cross Fund, and the rankings of the British players for 1939.
Cotton's double success was achieved on consecutivo have now won the event twice each.

In the Tournament final, Cotton showed his match playing nerve by beating Padgham on the 37th hole, and Padgham (first round)— more than a thousand spectators, gave vent to rising ex- citement during the second round when the players were matching stroke with stroke and halving holes in birdie figures.
Cheers at the end were us much for the gallant loser as for the winter.
The excitement began at the Miss Pam Barton, who won the eleventh hole of the second women's championship for the second round, when Cotton missed a time, was placed first among the two-foot putt and allowed Padg.

Such a task is dimcult, and an unofficial "list"has been made for the British players not without some trepidation.
