WITHDRAWALS FROM BASKETBALL LEAGUE

South China Refuse Petition for Stadium

(By "GUARD")

A BOMBSHELL was dropped by the "A" and "B" cagers of South China on Wednesday, on the occasion of the commencement of the basketball season. When their names were called for their matches, the captains of both teams announced their intention of withdrawing from the League, but declined to give any reasons.

No explanation was given until yesterday, when most of the Chinese newspapers publish- ed an open letter signed by the players in which were given their reasons for their with- drawal.

It appears that the basketballers wish to profit by South China's "fat" year to ask for a new gladium, the cost of which was estimated at roughly $1,700, and have addressed a petition to the Association, which petition was ignored.

Eastern have withdrawn their am from the League. Their reason, team It seems, is that most of their players are only temporarily transferred from their Shanghat offices and they may be called back at a moment's notlee,
