GOVT. IS DOOMED

Premier Advised To Resign

By H. L. PERCY

("UNITED PRESB" STAFF

CORRESPONDENT)

LONDON, May 10 (UP). -The majority of Members of Parliament with whom I talked last night adhere to the conviction that the Chamberlain Government is doomed.

Its survival could be prolonged for only a brief period.

A group of rebel Conserva- tives have already discussed, with Mr. Chamberlain the ques- tion of his resignation, and have advised him to offer his services under another Prime Minister.

Three Possible Courses Several courses are open to Mr. Chamberlain if he SCCB His Majesty the King.

1.--Je may resign outright, leaving

it up to the Labour Party or, if they refuse or fail, to the Liberal Party to form a Cabinet.

The third course seems the must ship Adintral Scheer,

likely one Mr. Chamberlain will adopt.

Labour Party's Reluctance The Parliamentary Labour Party is reluctant to form a Government and! the Opposition Liberals are too weak to gain any substantial following in ile House,

The likeliest development is that Lord Halifax will become Premier (with a seat in the House of Lordis) and Mr. Churchill leader in the House of Commons.

The Opposition, however, is almost certain to object to the Premier sit- ting in the House of Lords and Mr. Churchill may,

therefore, become

LABOUR FAVOURS LLOYD GEORGE

By Frederick Kuh ("UNITED, PRESS" STAFF CORRESPONDENT)

LONDON, May 9 (UP).~~A prominent member of the Parliamentary Lalwur Party in- formed me to-night that Mr. Lloyd George would be the most suitable man for the Premier- shin from the Labour point of view.

He admitted, however, that Huch a selection would encoun ter stiff opposition from the Conservatives, and this opposi. tion would prove decisive.

Labour's next best cholce, he said, was Mr. Churchill, but Labour's acceptance of office under Lord Halifax should not be ruled out.
